“We congratulate the House for including immigration protections in the Build Back Better Act. We are a union of immigrants — our members work hard each day to bring care and hospitality to guests and customers across the country.
“This bill would change the lives of our members and millions of others by providing work permits and deportation protections to undocumented immigrants who have lived in the U.S. since January 1, 2011. If enacted into law, they could apply for work permits, visit their home countries, and be sponsored for legal permanent residence by immediate family members who are U.S. citizens.
“This is significant. It means workers will be able to go to their jobs without fear of deportation from ICE or the police, get a driver’s license, and visit loved ones after being separated for decades.
“This is not the path to citizenship we set on, but it’s major progress. As the bill now heads to the Senate, we will continue to fight and urge the Senate Dems to secure citizenship for all.”
