UNITE HERE is a union of working people who believe that one job should be enough to provide for our families. With our union, housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers, and concessions workers have achieved middle-class wages and top-notch health insurance in industries often defined by poverty wages and negligible benefits.
UNITE HERE has a widely recognized, decades-long track record organizing the people progressives need to vote. And while COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our members—with 98% laid off during the Spring 2020 peak of the pandemic and a slow recovery ongoing for the hospitality industry—during the 2020 presidential election we led the way into the field to take back our country from Trump in Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Pennsylvania. 1,700 hospitality workers knocked on over three million doors, and together we won the Presidency.
Then we joined Stacey Abrams and others in Georgia, building on years of their hard work to Take Back the Senate. Our Georgia team started 500 strong and grew to 1,100. Every UNITE HERE local pitched in. We hit 1.6 million doors, helping our coalition reach 10 million and change the course of history.
UNITE HERE’s political program is a decades-long cycle of investment in building organizing infrastructure year-round, not just during election season.
We can win the Senate and the House in 2022. As a union, we know that we are almost always coming from behind. We do it anyway and we often win. To succeed this year, we will need to run our largest program ever and we are prepared to do so. Our canvassers are already on the ground doing this work in Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.
