More UNITE HERE canvassers than ever knocked on the largest number of doors in our union’s history. Voters turned out to decide their future, and now we must count every vote.
Statement from UNITE HERE President Gwen Mills:
This election season, UNITE HERE members declared that it was up to us to help win this election, and we delivered. We went hard because the outcome will determine whether unions and working-class people can keep our focus on moving forward to create a better future. We left it all on the field because, at the same time, the rights of workers, people of color, immigrants, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and more are all on the line.
Over the past four months, 2,000 UNITE HERE canvassers knocked on over four million doors and had over 500,000 individual conversations with voters. Many of them are union members who took leaves of absence from their jobs to knock doors in critical battleground states like Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. I am thankful for every one of them and the commitment they made for our country’s democracy.
While one candidate sought to divide us, we put in the work to bring us together. We knocked doors to turn out voters to elect a president, vice president, and Congress that will work with each other to support the interests of our members and all women, people of color, immigrants, and workers.
We did our job: more UNITE HERE canvassers than ever knocked on the largest number of doors in our history. Voters across the country also did their job by voting early, voting by mail, or casting their ballots in-person on Election Day. Now, election officials will do theirs. UNITE HERE is committed to ensuring that every vote is counted and certified. Voters turned out to decide their future, and now it’s up to us to make sure that their voices are heard.
