UNITE HERE Union Condemns Supreme Court Decision Upholding Trump Muslim Ban
Statement on Behalf of UNITE HERE International President D. Taylor
New York, NY — UNITE HERE strongly condemns the Supreme Court’s Tuesday decision upholding President Donald Trump’s Muslim travel ban. Today, UNITE HERE’s International Union President D. Taylor issued the following statement:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to condone the Trump Administration’s racist, xenophobic policy agenda is a disgrace to the core values of our country and our union.
“The Trump Administration’s insistence on restricting the basic freedoms of people based on their religion or the color of their skin is intolerable, and our members – immigrant, refugee, and native-born – will continue to resist and fight for justice for people of all races and faiths.
“Workers fight to form unions to make sure that their rights are protected on the job. UNITE HERE will not allow discrimination in our workplaces on the basis of religion, the color of our skin, our sexual orientation or gender identity, our national origin, or the languages we speak.
“As the union of hospitality workers, including workers who hail from every corner of the world, we know that our diversity is our strength. Today’s decision flies in the face of our way of life and will only deepen our commitment to fight for inclusive immigration policy for our workers and our country and to defeat Trump’s hateful agenda.”
