The hospitality workers’ union — running the largest canvasing operations in Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, with a smaller-scale effort in Georgia — announced earlier over 1,200 canvassers are knocking on 2.7 million doors for the 2022 midterms.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — On Monday — in the home stretch before the 2022 midterm election — hospitality workers’ union UNITE HERE’s team of canvassers in Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia were joined by Vice President Kamala Harris for a virtual get-out-the-vote (GOTV) event. The union’s canvass operation is the largest in the states of Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, and announced earlier today that they are knocking on 2.7 million doors in the leadup to Election Day. Vice President Harris addressed the stakes of the election, thanked UNITE HERE for their work, and gave a final push to the hundreds of canvassers that joined the Zoom as the final hours before voting ends approaches.
Vice President Kamala Harris, speaking to hundreds of UNITE HERE canvassers on a virtual GOTV event:
“So many of you were the people who — because of your leadership, because of your organizing, because of your work — were responsible for Joe Biden becoming President of the United States and me becoming Vice President of the United States. You did the work of reminding people of what’s at stake, and of their power and importance of not letting anybody take your power. That’s especially important now when we have these extreme leaders with an absurd definition of what strength looks like. They think strength is who you beat down. But we know that strength is based on who you lift-up. And that’s who we stand together for — for coalition building, for organizing, for lifting-up the power of the people through their voice.”
D. Taylor, UNITE HERE President:
“UNITE HERE thanks Vice President Kamala Harris for joining hundreds of our Union’s field force for a virtual GOTV event on the eve of Election Day 2022. We are hitting the doors of millions of voters this year — across the four critically close states of Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia — in an effort powered by the entire labor movement because we know that Trump Republicans don’t have a plan for corporate price gouging and the housing crisis. Their only plans are around how to steal an election or organize another insurrection. What also know that we have the most pro-union administration in a generation, and it’s because of people like Vice President Harris who has been a fighter by UNITE HERE’s side for workers’ rights for years. In the field, canvassers are fired up for this final 24-hour stretch before polls close where we have invested our ground game — and are ready to turnout every single voter that they can.”
