UNITE HERE Union Unveils Major Ad Campaign Directed at Senator Dean Heller on Coming Healthcare Vote
Union to Go Live This Week with Ad Emphasizing Slashes to Medicaid, Attacks on Seniors, Tax on Working Families
NEW YORK, NY—UNITE HERE, the national union representing hospitality workers, today unveiled a significant ad buy urging Senator Dean Heller to stand firm in his opposition to the current Senate version of Trumpcare.
“The Republican Senate Trumpcare bill would devastate our country’s healthcare system, particularly for our nation’s most vulnerable and working class families,” said D. Taylor, President of UNITE HERE. “It would kick over 20 million people off their insurance and lower the coverage and quality of care for American workers, while raising their premiums—all to pass massive tax cuts for the rich. That’s why we applaud Senator Dean Heller and Governor Sandoval for coming out against this destructive bill.”
The ads will appear on digital platforms across Sen. Heller’s home state of Nevada, and feature both seniors and workers calling on their senator to remain a no vote on legislation that will do deep harm in Nevada and across the nation.
Sen. Heller (R-NV) is considered one of several key swing Republican votes on the legislation, and could be one of the two deciding votes on Trumpcare. He has publicly taken a position of opposition to the legislation, which has lead to numerous attacks from Republicans, including a Trump-associated Super PAC that very briefly aired then pulled ads against him.
The Republican Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, has weighed in strongly against the GOP Senate healthcare bill, saying that it would harm Nevadans and condemning it for the cuts to the poor and seniors it would offer.
“Senator Heller stands between a healthy America and an unhealthy one,” continued Taylor. “We believe our healthcare system must be fixed—not destroyed. Trumpcare doesn’t improve anything. We want Republicans and Democrats to finally put the health of the nation ahead of the unhealthy partisan politics. Senator Heller must continue to refuse to support the entire Senate bill. Nevadans are counting on him to keep up his opposition.”
