FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – With polls closing in the eastern time zone, UNITE HERE’s top two decision makers — President D. Taylor and Secretary-Treasurer Gwen Mills — issued a joint statement on the state of the 2022 midterms, with a particular focus on Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
“We are incredibly proud of every individual who played a role in our midterm program this year to elect candidates who support working people. Over 1,200 hospitality workers canvassing with UNITE HERE have knocked on more than 2.7 million doors across the four key swing states of Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Thousands of people will vote in this election because they had a conversation in-person with a UNITE HERE canvasser.
“Now, as we await the results of our elections nationwide, it’s crucial that every vote be counted, and the will of the people prevails. In America, we value our rights to make our voices heard, pick our own leaders, and decide our own futures. Already, we have seen Trump Republicans spread false claims about our elections and try to silence voters to grab power if the results aren’t in their favor. As a Union we are committed to continuing to organize to ensure that the will of the people stands.”
Additionally, UNITE HERE released the union’s final estimated canvassing numbers from four states*
- Nevada: 1,000,000 doors knocked
- Arizona: 750,000 doors knocked
- Pennsylvania: 950,000 doors knocked
- Georgia: 17,000 doors knocked (Columbus, GA focused operation is prepared to expand to a large-scale program in the event of a runoff)
*Exact final numbers will be released after Election Day.
