“Trumpcare failed in the House today, and rightly so because it would have failed the American people miserably. Now, the fight continues. Trump promised ‘insurance for everybody’ that would be ‘much less expensive and much better.’ Trumpcare would do the opposite, slashing coverage and driving up healthcare costs for millions of Americans. The plan is little more than a half-trillion-dollar tax cut for the rich at the expense of the poor, the sick, and the vast majority of Americans who get their health insurance through work.
“Today’s GOP failure shows just how bankrupt this plan is. It’s time for Congress to come together fix and strengthen the Affordable Care Act. Congress must rein in out-of-control prescription drug and out-of-pocket costs. It must also permanently repeal the excise tax on middle-class health benefits that is driving up deductibles and driving down care for working Americans. UNITE HERE will continue to fight alongside our allies for the health and livelihoods of all Americans.”
