In 2020, UNITE HERE’s International Union and our affiliates have made a commitment to turbocharge our political organizing, building on proven GOTV successes in cities and states across North America. This year, UNITE HERE locals will be active in races across the U.S., with a particular focus and yearlong programs running in the key swing states of Nevada, Florida and Arizona.
UNITE HERE’s political victories buck conventional wisdom regarding what labor can achieve under Trump. UNITE HERE has played a major role in delivering hard won election victories in both Nevada and Arizona, becoming the critical force behind the only Senatorial races to swing blue in 2018. Building on our winning program in these states, in 2020 we will deliver our strongholds and expand in new states to support a candidate who stands against hostile and divisive racist attacks and stands for economic, racial and social justice.
During this preparation phase, our International Union will not be endorsing in the Presidential Primary. Any local endorsing in the primary will be weighing the candidates’ positions on the key economic justice issues for our Union, such as supporting the right to organize unions, immigration reform, criminal justice reform and reining in the price of healthcare.
Across our Union, UNITE HERE is united in one common goal: One Job Should Be Enough—enough to go to the doctor, to raise a family, to retire with dignity, and to live the American Dream.
