"CAFTA - We Don't Hafta" Tour
Workers Visit New York City for Anti-CAFTA Forum
Workers from the U.S., Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Guatemala are on a new tour of America to say “CAFTA – We Don’t Hafta.” On Sunday, May 15, at 1:00 PM the tour visits New York for a press conference and workers’ forum at UNITE HERE at 275 Seventh Avenue, 7th Floor.
The forum features workers from the Americas who will come together to teach each other about how free trade deals, like the proposed Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), bring down workplace standards and development while lining the pockets of mega-corporations. CAFTA is the Wal-Mart of trade deals that serves to grease the corporate race to the bottom on wages and jobs and worsen conditions for workers in the U.S. and Central America.
The tour kicked off In D.C. on May 10, at a massive anti-CAFTA press conference and rally on Capitol Hill with labor and elected leaders to demand that Congress and the Bush administration halt the proposed CAFTA. The tour continues to San Antonio for another forum. For more information, please visit www.aflcio.org/cafta
