LAS VEGAS, Mar. 15 – On Friday, March 23, thousands of members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 will rally for a new contract for casino workers on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas. Fifty thousand of the Culinary Union’s 60,000 members are covered by collective bargaining agreements that expire on May 31, 2007. Contract negotiations began on March 14th.
Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer D. Taylor noted that, “In our Union, we call the standard we have set here ‘the Las Vegas Dream.’ It is a dream that has become a reality for tens of thousands of workers and must be protected and strengthened as Las Vegas grows and changes. Our members have come from all across the country and the world because of the opportunity available in Las Vegas. The workers that make this city great deserve to be able to build a better life for their families.
