For immediate release

UNITE HERE strongly opposes the Biden administration’s decision to release any additional H-2B visas. Instead of raising the H-2B cap, the Biden Administration should take steps to protect all workers — both U.S. and migrant — by strengthening labor protections in the H-2B program.
As the hospitality industry continues to recover, we need to ensure that longtime loyal employees are able to get their jobs back. At the peak of the pandemic UNITE HERE workers faced 98% layoff rates nationwide and a majority remain laid-off today.
It’s time for President Biden to deliver on his promises of being the most pro-labor and pro-worker Administration in U.S. history. The Administration must refrain from issuing more H-2B visas this year during this time of pandemic-related high unemployment. To protect both migrant and U.S. workers, the Biden Administration should instead focus on implementing critically needed worker protections in the H-2B program.
