“One-on-one conversations are an unparalleled tool for Democrats in close races, especially when it comes to turning out Black, Brown, immigrant, and working-class voters. I’m proud that once again our union was on the forefront of this effort, and, despite the loss, feel the evidence that door-to-door canvassing is Democrats’ secret weapon couldn’t be clearer.
“The reality is, voters are motivated by face-to-face conversations with people who understand the bread-and-butter issues on their minds, from wages to healthcare to housing. That’s what we heard talking to thousands of Virginia voters every day. If Democrats deliver in Congress and continue to value organizing and investing in the ground game, we can elect more pro-worker candidates who will enact pro-worker policies.
“This election cycle has been an unprecedented effort for our union in Virginia, but we only plan to grow from here—during election season and year-round. Looking ahead to 2022, we can take the lessons of Virginia and apply them by building a robust ground game in the areas we need to hold or flip. This isn’t ground-breaking science; this is just getting back to basics to ensure a long-term recovery where all workers come back stronger.”
