Washington Must Heed the Call from Working Americans: ‘Don’t Tax Our Healthcare!’

“Tonight, in his address to Congress, President Trump once again demonstrated he is clueless when it comes to health care. Rather than fixing its shortcomings, Republicans in Congress will replace the ACA with TrumpCare that will destroy many of the most successful and popular parts of the law, while imposing the largest tax increase on working Americans in a generation.

“By taxing employer-sponsored healthcare, TrumpCare will take thousands of dollars a year out of the pockets of working families when they can least afford it. The prospect of such a tax under Obamacare has contributed to skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs for working Americans who get their coverage through an employer.

“The ‘TrumpCare tax’ will undermine the bedrock of the American social contract on health care that for 70 years has encouraged – not taxed – these essential middle-class benefits. TrumpCare will accelerate the race to the bottom in coverage and costs for working families and threaten health care for 177 million Americans.

“Health care is an incredibly important and personal issue to the American people. President Trump already admitted he underestimated the complexity of health care; he would be wise not to also underestimate the determination with which working people will fight to save their health care.”
