New York, NY – “A majority of Americans, both Democrats and Republicans in all parts of the country in both red and blue states, oppose trade deals that benefit corporate elites.
“Like them, I am disappointed that the Peru trade agreement was passed by the House of Representatives today. But I am heartened by the fact that a majority of Democrats stood up for working Americans and voted against the Peru agreement.
“The lesson of the 2006 election, and the message that Congressional Democrats sent to the Democratic leadership today is clear: Democrats need a trade policy that benefits working Americans and raises standards around the world. The Peru trade agreement was not an example of that kind of policy.”
