National Union Leaders Visit Charlotte for Rally and GOTV Canvass In Final Push Ahead of Election
With three days until Election Day, national union leaders are spending critical final hours in battleground states like North Carolina mobilizing members to deliver victories for pro-worker candidates
MEDIA ADVISORY for November 2, 2024
CHARLOTTE – On Saturday, November 2 at 10 a.m., National AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond, Communications Workers of America (CWA) President Claude Cummings, UNITE HERE Secretary-Treasurer Nia Winston, and North Carolina State AFL-CIO President MaryBe McMillan will be gathering for a rally with union member volunteers ahead of a critical canvass on the last weekend before Election Day. CWA members in North Carolina recently voted to ratify a powerful new contract at AT&T Southeast with substantial wage increases, and now workers are ready to elect candidates up and down the ballot who will continue to respect their hard work and freedom to thrive. Throughout the state, there are 125,000 union members—a greater number than Donald Trump’s winning edge in 2020. And in an election where North Carolina’s 16 electoral college votes likely will be awarded based on an incredibly slim margin, the labor movement’s state-wide mobilization efforts have the potential to be the deciding factor in electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the next President and Vice President of the United States.
