Hyatt Regency Atlanta And UNITE HERE Local 23 Reach New 5-Year Agreement
New agreement calls for higher wages, lower healthcare costs for hotel associates
ATLANTA (Oct. 5, 2015) – Hyatt Regency Atlanta announced today that the hotel and its employees have ratified a new five-year union contract, reconfirming the positive labor-management relations that have been in place at the hotel for more than 30 years.
The new agreement was the result of nine months of bargaining and contains a number of key provisions, including language that protects the employees’ job security, rolls back the use of sub-contracted employees and ensures that employees’ jobs would be protected in the event the hotel were sold.
In addition, employee healthcare costs will be reduced, while the company’s contribution to the employee pension will increase. Room attendants’ work load will be reduced on heavy check-out days and tipped workers will see an increase in their vacation, sick days and holiday pay.
“We have a tradition at Hyatt Regency Atlanta of caring for our associates so they can be their best, and this agreement is part of that commitment,” said Peter McMahon, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Atlanta. “We respect our associates’ right to organize, and I’d like to thank our associates for working with us to reach an agreement that benefits all of us.”
Pinkie Norwood, a room attendant stated, “This new agreement will let us continue to have the best hotel in the city and earn a wage and benefit package that provides for us and our families.”
