August 17, Las Vegas – Today, the Culinary Workers Union Local 226,
Bartenders Union Local 165, and the Riviera Hotel & Casino reached a
tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement covering
approximately 1,000 workers at the Las Vegas property.
The new tentative agreement was negotiated between representatives of the
Riviera Hotel & Casino and a committee of rank-and-file members of the
Culinary and Bartenders Unions. The tentative agreement will be presented
for ratification by members of the Culinary and Bartenders Unions employed
at the Riviera next week. The agreement mirrors the new contract reached by
Harrah’s Entertainment and the Culinary Union earlier this summer.
D. Taylor, the Culinary Union’s Secretary-Treasurer and lead negotiator
noted that, "We are pleased that the negotiating committee was able to
achieve its goal of protecting the ‘Las Vegas Dream’ for workers at the
Riviera. It is great to see a company like the Riviera, which has been a
part of Las Vegas for so long, taking a lead on setting new standards for
casino workers in this town."
The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 represents over 60,000 workers
including hotel and casino workers on the Las Vegas Strip and at Downtown
properties as well as workers at McCarran Airport and at industrial laundry
plants throughout Las Vegas. The Culinary Union settled a new contract with
Harrah’s Entertainment in June. Over 30,000 workers are still working under
