Chicago hotel workers tell 2nd Ward Alderman Haithcock to ‘Get Out!’
What: Political rally to get out the vote and get Alderman Haithcock out of office
Who: Chicago Hotel Workers and Aldermanic Candidates David Askew, Larry Doody, Bob Fioretti, and Kenny Johnson
Where: Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Ave.
Date: Thursday, February 22nd
Time: 4:00pm – 5:30pm
Members of UNITE HERE Local 1, including those on strike for over 44 months at the Congress Plaza Hotel, will rally to defeat Madeline Haithcock, Alderman of the 2nd Ward Thursday, February 22nd.
The Congress Plaza Hotel, in the 2nd Ward on Michigan Avenue, is still offering wages of $8.83 per hour for housekeepers, while the citywide standard is now $13.20. The hotel refuses to pay for decent healthcare and a pension, and wants to freeze the 2002 wages until 2010.
Madeline Haithcock has done nothing to help settle the strike in her ward. In fact, when seeking her help in the dispute, Haithcock kicked striking Congress workers out of her office. The heroic Congress hotel Strikers have walked the picket line since June 15, 2003.
