Airport developer has been involved in ongoing labor dispute at Baltimore-Washington International Airport
BALTIMORE–UNITE HERE has released a short video about the controversy surrounding concessions developer AIRMALL USA and its ongoing labor troubles at Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI). The video features clips from various state government meetings and hearings in which elected officials and airport workers express their concerns about the concessions developer.
The video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG1KsECzuBI
“There has been an enormous amount of activity and political attention over AIRMALL’s program at BWI,” said President Roxie Herbekian of UNITE HERE Local 7. “This video provides a view of that activity, and any airport representatives considering AIRMALL for its program should watch it.”
AIRMALL has been in a labor dispute with concessions workers at BWI Airport for a year and a half and has yet to resolve the ongoing labor unrest. Workers have held protest actions outside of the airport, and in March hundreds of people protested in support of a law that would raise worker pay in Annapolis, some of whom were even arrested.
The video includes a news clip about that protest, critical words from Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and other elected officials, and information about issues AIRMALL or its subtenants have had in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
