UNITE HERE LOCAL 75 READY TO SIGN CONTRACT WITH EMPLOYER
UNITE HERE Local 75 members at the Radisson Suite Hotel Toronto Airport and Holiday Inn Toronto Airport East reach a tentative agreement with the employer at 3am this morning.
In the past month the workers at the two hotels staged two half day walkouts to raise overall working standards.
The legal strike lockout deadline for the Fairmont Royal York was on July 27, 2008. Negotiations continue, and both sides are committed to keep talking as long as progress is being made.
The mobilizations will carry on with a city-wide rally and march on Thursday, July 31 at 5pm at Toronto’s City Hall titled “We are the New Majority.” The march will bring hundreds of service-sector workers, community supporters and other immigrants to celebrate as a new majority in Toronto.
These mobilizations are part of the “Hotel Workers Rising” campaign also referred to as “Immigrant Workers Rising” an emerging movement of workers in the GTA.
