This is Our Shot
Hospitality workers are among those most at risk from COVID-19. A recent study found that line cooks had the largest rate of excess deaths in 2020. We are frontline workers, and we should be prioritized in vaccination efforts.
It is normal to have questions about the vaccine.
We deserve to have equal access to it.
We stand on the shoulders of those who fought before us to make medicine more equitable. And our union has a proud history of demanding quality healthcare for ourselves and our families. We led the way this past year: fighting for access to healthcare and PPE; demanding racial and economic justice; and, playing a crucial role in the 2020 presidential election and the 2021 Georgia Senate victories.
“It’s always been a part of our union’s story to fight for standards that keep us safe and healthy both at work and at home. The fight for access to a life-saving vaccine is no different. The global pandemic knocked us off our feet. It will take a collective effort to restore our industries so more of us can safely return to work. The COVID-19 vaccine is our chance to rebuild our union. It’s our shot to fight for ourselves, each other and our families.” –Nia Winston, UNITE HERE General Vice President and President of UNITE HERE Midwest Joint Board
