Partners for Equality on Campus and Beyond
Students across the U.S. and Canada have changed thousands of lives as activists with UNITE HERE.
Strong student-labor committees work for greater responsibility and accountability from school administrations and university-affiliated corporations for fair wages, affordable health care, equal rights for LGBTQ people, and immigration reform. Students also have been part of winning major improvements in working conditions and the right to organize in their dining halls. At Pomona College in California, for example, students stood side-by-side with unorganized workers to help them form a union with workplace protections for immigrants.
Real Food Real Jobs
Through the initiative called Real Food Real Jobs, UNITE HERE partners with students to tackle issues in campus food systems, including workers’ rights, sustainable food initiatives, and transparency in university food service contracting.
Organizing Beyond Barriers
Organizing Beyond Barriers is a training and leadership development program where students build progress in social justice movements side-by-side with fellow activists from workplace organizing campaigns.
Since 2011, OBB has trained hundreds of young people and their volunteer recruits to win real victories like a new contract for thousands of airport workers; accountability from American Eagle for garment factory safety in Bangladesh; and a freeze on sponsorship of the anti-woman and anti-union Ultimate Fighting Championship from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Check out Organizing Beyond Barriers and meet more than 100 summer organizers who have made lasting change in cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
