UNITE HERE is a new union created out of the strong and proud traditions of several unions. The Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU) and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) merged to form UNITE in 1995. The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE) includes, among others, the Culinary Workers, Hotel Employees, Bartenders, Cafeteria Workers, Chefs, and Waiters and Waitresses locals. HERE and UNITE merged in 2004 to form UNITE HERE. (click here to read the history of these unions)
