Thousands Protest Hyatt Across North America

Santa Clara

On July 22, 2010, thousands of hotel workers led protests of Hyatt and its billionaire owners in 15 cities across North America.

Long Beach: Over 100 picketed outside the Hyatt Long Beach, as dozens of clergy and supporters protested inside the Hyatt. When forced to leave, they joined the protest outside.

Los Angeles: 700 hotel workers, clergy and community supporters took to the streets on the red carpet in true Hollywood fashion on Sunset Blvd.

Los Angeles

Rosemont, IL: Nearly 150 people hotel workers from the Hyatt O'Hare and surrounding hotels took part in the first picketing action at the hotel, where workers have been seeking a new contract since August of 2009.

San Diego: 250 turned out to take part in a protest in front of the Andaz San Diego, a non-union Hyatt property.

Vancouver

San Francisco: Over 1400 hotel workers and their supporters marched in front of the Grand Hyatt hotel in Union Square.

Vancouver: Six hundred UNITE HERE members protested in front of the Hyatt Regency in downtown Vancouver.

San Antonio

San Antonio: 100 non-union Hyatt workers and supporters held a rally in front of the Grand Hyatt, which included a giant banner drop protesting Hyatt.

Chicago: Nearly 1000 people took part in an action in front of the Hyatt Regency Chicago in downtown Chicago. Workers in uniforms chanted and wore signs that read "Enough is Enough."

Miami: Despite a looming tropical storm, over 200 workers and allies participated in the first-ever Local 355 action on a Hyatt in South Florida.

Toronto: 400 people picketed and then took over the Hyatt motor court with lots of noise, a few speeches and a samba squad!

Pittsburgh

Santa Clara: 250 workers and community protested outside the Hyatt Santa Clara, where Hyatt has refused to grant workers a fair and neutral process to choose whether to form a union.

Pittsburgh: Approximately 200 Local 57 members and supporters engaged in a spirited protest in downtown Pittsburgh, demanding that workers receive their fair share as the economy improves.

Hawaii: The protest at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue drew more than 1000 Hawaii hotel workers from Local 5.

Indianapolis

Boston: 200 hotel workers and supporters rallied outside the Hyatt Regency Boston. Protestors included 7 of the "Hyatt 100" workers who were fired last August and replaced with minimum wage subcontracted workers.

Indianapolis: At the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, hospitality workers and community supporters took a stand for non-union Hyatt workers who have requested a fair process to organize free from management intimidation.
